One of the few bright spots, though, has been the rare opportunity to see and hear many musicians in their natural habitat, that is their own homes.
Forbidden from touring, several artists have shared their talents with the world from their living rooms, bedrooms, and even kitchens. These intimate performances are more stripped down than even so-called “unplugged” shows where an artist shows up and plays acoustic music. But those staged shows produced and recorded from the past still had high production values when it comes to sound and lighting.
The music we’re witnessing these days are often fed straight through a laptop or smart phone and onto the internet using platforms such as Zoom.
It can be a refreshing experience for independent artists like me to see some of our favorite icons playing music in their homes just like we do. Of course, most of us have a lot fewer fans tuning in.
At any rate it’s one of the few cool things this deadly scourge has brought to us.
