Listen to "Confession" draft
An early work in progress
Here is an early pass at a song in development. The recording above is just a bare-bones guitar and vocal to give you an idea. I've also included a link to the Nashville critique so you can compare notes. The lyrics are below. Thanks for your input.
Confession
V 1: Forgive me, father, for I have sinned
Can’t even tell you how long it’s been
Since I last confessed my crimes
Stole Bazooka Joe from the candy store
Kicked a big hole in the front screen door
Must’ve told my ma a million lies
Chorus: Ah the truth is so hard to face
But Hell is such a scary pla
V 2: Say Hail Marys ’till my knees give out
Trying to quell that demon doubt
Staining my immortal soul
Paste His body on my tongue
Pray in the pew ’till the last hymn’s sung
Vowin’ to do what I’ve been told
Chorus So hard to keep the faith
But Hell is such a fiery place
V3: So forgive me father for I have sinned
Don’t know how I slipped up again
After all these years of grace
Incense burns as I kneel and pray
Waiting for a sign to show me the way
So far beneath the stain-glass saints
Chorus So hard to tell you to your face
When the truth is such a lonely place
Can’t even tell you how long it’s been
Since I last confessed my crimes
Stole Bazooka Joe from the candy store
Kicked a big hole in the front screen door
Must’ve told my ma a million lies
Chorus: Ah the truth is so hard to face
But Hell is such a scary pla
V 2: Say Hail Marys ’till my knees give out
Trying to quell that demon doubt
Staining my immortal soul
Paste His body on my tongue
Pray in the pew ’till the last hymn’s sung
Vowin’ to do what I’ve been told
Chorus So hard to keep the faith
But Hell is such a fiery place
V3: So forgive me father for I have sinned
Don’t know how I slipped up again
After all these years of grace
Incense burns as I kneel and pray
Waiting for a sign to show me the way
So far beneath the stain-glass saints
Chorus So hard to tell you to your face
When the truth is such a lonely place

"Blue looks good on you" lyrics
V 1: The nasty way he left you high and dry
Makes me believe there’s justice in this life
Don’t you remember you did the same damn thing to me
So don’t expect my sympathy
Oh, let me tell you
Chorus: Blue … looks good on you
Mascara running down your face, crying boohoo
Never in your cunning schemes
Thought you’d be crying the blues
Ah blue looks good on you
V 2: Took me in with a smile that shook my soul
And I believe every sweet lie that you told
Left a trail of heartache in your wake
Tell me how you like that bitter taste
Oh, but you know
Chorus: Blue … looks good on you
Mascara running down your face, crying boohoo
Never in your cunning schemes
Thought you’d be playing the fool
Ah blue looks good on you
Bridge: Don’t the world feel cold from way down here
With all the wounded hearts that cared
Chorus: Blue … looks good on you
Blue … looks good on you
Never in your cunning schemes
Thought it could happen to you
Ah blue looks good on you
